8 tips for building a great home theatre

8 tips for building a great home theatre

With the Dodgers going to the World Series and many good movies being released ... It would be nice to watch the game and be entertained with a home theatre. If you're thinking of building one, yet you don't know where to begin, these eight tips from HGTV should help get you started:

  1. Pick a space, like off the living room, and it should be at least 12'x12'
  2. Frame the space and pay special attention to insulation
  3. Pre-wire surround sound; mark each location where the speakers will go
  4. Pre-wire a video projector; this involves two cables (HDMI and CAD5)
  5. Pre-wire lighting
  6. Install drywall and sound barriers. Two options include:
    1. QuietRock Soundproof Drywall, or
    2. Ordinary drywall lined with sound-dampening materials, such as high-density vinyl
  7. Set up video and sound system. In a 20'x13' theater, the ideal screen size is 110-120 inches
  8. Install seating. Two rows of four seats will fit comfortably in a 20'x13' theater. For better viewing, elevate the back row with a pre-built platform.

Lastly, pop some popcorn, sit down, enjoy the show.
